ROUND 1 RESULTS - September 2007

Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's WORD WELTER puzzle contest. There were 7 Round 1 entries, 2 Round 2 entries and 2 Round 3 entries for the September 2007 puzzles.

Since half of the players win, there are 3 Round 1 winners, 1 Round 2 winner and 1 Round 3 winner for a total of $130.

Total prizes paid in Word Welter is now $1,530.

All winners will receive forms asking if they wish to continue to the next round. The forms are enclosed with each monthly mailing. Winners who wish to risk their prizes and continue to the following round must sign and return the forms by the given deadline. Winners who wish to stop and take their prizes may discard the signature forms. Winners will receive either their prize check or their higher round puzzle(s) with the next month's Round 1 puzzle. If there is an odd number of players for a given higher round, one player will be held over to a later month.

David Smallberg had the 1208-point top-scoring solution in Round 1.
     AARDVARK 163 JUNGLE 78 SLEUTH 66
     ABJECT 91 OUTPUT 78 SUMMARIZE 121
     BEECHNUT 119 PHARYNX 127 WOOF 80
     BLOWGUN 120 PSYCHOLOGY 165

Since there were 3 winners you did not need the top score to win. In fact, you could score 35 points lower and still win. The cutoff for winners was at 1173. Winning Round 1 prizes of $18 each are
     1208 David Smallberg
     1203 Robert Thrift
     1173 Beverley Bramich

ROUND 2

In Round 2 David Smallberg had the 1935-point top solution to win $28.
     APLOMB 160 HYPNOTIC 166 SCOTSWOMAN 216
     DOFF 143 PUMPKIN 155 VOTARY 156
     FARMSTEAD 245 QUICKSTEP 182 VULGARIZE 193
     GEARBOX 198 QUOTH 121

ROUND 3

In Round 3 Lee Morgenstern and David Smallberg had identical 5265-point solutions. A tiebreaker puzzle will be issued.
The winning players may take their prizes, or they may sign and return the signature slips to risk their prizes and continue to the next round to compete for larger prizes. This is the only way to reach the higher rounds.
