ROUND 1 RESULTS - November 2006

Congratulations to K. R. Dunn who has received 10 prizes in Word Welter. She is the first player to reach 10 prizes. She is no longer eligible to play Round 1, so all other players will move up one place.

Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's WORD WELTER puzzle contest. There were 11 Round 1 entries, 4 Round 2 entries and 2 Round 3 entries for the November 2006 puzzles.

Since half of the players win, there are 5 Round 1 winners and 2 Round 2 winners. Round 3 resulted in a tie.

Total prizes paid in Word Welter is now $1048.

All winners will receive forms asking if they wish to continue to the next round. The forms are enclosed with each monthly mailing. Winners who wish to risk their prizes and continue to the following round must sign and return the forms by the given deadline. Winners who wish to stop and take their prizes may discard the signature forms. Winners will receive either their prize check or their higher round puzzle(s) with the next month's Round 1 puzzle. If there is an odd number of players for a given higher round, one player will be held over to a later month.

Patrick Hegland had the 1301-point top-scoring solution in Round 1.
     BALDRIC	144	HALFPENNY 188 WALKWAY 104
     EMBOSS 81	JUKEBOX 129 WALNUT 94
     EQUIVALENT 122	QUICKEN 102 WIZARDRY 127
     GUPPY 75	UPGROWTH 135

Since there were 5 winners you did not need the top score to win. In fact, you could score 45 points lower and still win. The cutoff for winners was at 1256. Winning Round 1 prizes of $18 each are
     1301 Patrick Hegland
     1298 Bonita Hauff
     1281 M. J. Antchagno
     1257 George Milkovich
     1256 Robert Thrift

ROUND 2

In Round 2 Lee Morgenstern and David Smallberg both had the 1915-point top solution to win $28.
     ASPERITY	200	FUZZY 120 PUDGY 132
     BRONCHITIS 198	KUDZU 160 VIBRANT 126
     FASCISM	167	LASSITUDE 273 WASHWOMAN 193

ROUND 3

In Round 3 Lee Morgenstern and David Smallberg both had the 4765-point top solution. The round will be replayed at a later date.
The winning players may take their prizes, or they may sign and return the signature slips to risk their prizes and continue to the next round to compete for larger prizes.
