ROUND 1 RESULTS - April 2010
Congratulations to Robert Thrift
who has reached $1000 in winnings.
He is the 35th player to reach this goal.
He is no longer eligible to play Round 1, so all other players
will advance one place.
We announced in January 2008 that when 35 players had won $1000
this tournament would be closed, and all of the players eligible
for the $1000 guarantee would be paid.
Please see below for full details about how that will work.
Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches.
There were 20 competing entries in the April 2010 Round 1 puzzle.
This makes 3 complete groups of 6 players.
These 3 winners will receive $35 each, or they may choose to
continue to Round 2 to compete for $175.
There is also one partial group with 2 players.
The winner of that group will receive $15.
Total prize money won this month is $120.
The Tournament of Riches has now paid $70,275 in cash prizes.
All winners will receive forms asking if they
wish to continue to the next round.
The forms are enclosed with each monthly mailing.
Winners who wish to risk their prizes and continue to the following
round must sign and return the forms by the given deadline.
Winners who wish to stop and take their prizes may discard
the signature forms.
Winners will receive either their prize check or their higher
round puzzle(s) with the next month's Round 1 puzzle.
If the number of players for a given higher round is not an even multiple
of 6, then some players will be held over to a later month.
Robert Thrift had the top-scoring 240-point Round 1 solution
shown below.
The cutoff was at 232 points
with 37 on the top row.

Contest Closing
All players completing the Tournament of Riches are guaranteed
to win at least $1000 in cash prizes.
Any player who started the tournament no later than January 2000, and who
has played every month since then is covered by this guarantee.
The tournament is now closing.
The prize guarantee payments will begin this month, May 2010.
(1) Players who started at the beginning of the contest in
September 1998, and who have played every month since then will receive
immediate payments.
Those checks are enclosed with the May 2010 mailing.
(2) Players who started after Sept. 1998, but before Jan. 2000,
or who missed some months before Jan. 2000 must make up the missing months.
They must continue to enter every month until they have made up all of the
months they missed.
(Some players have as many as 13 months to make up.)
Their final payment will then be sent automatically.
(3) Players who started after Jan. 2000, or who missed one or more
months after Jan. 2000 are not eligible for the prize guarantee.
Those players may continue to enter and play monthly.
The contest will continue to run until all eligible players have
received their final payments.
Each player's final payment will be the amount needed to bring
that player's total winnings up to at least $1000.
For example, if a player had already won $200 the final payment
would be $800.
Once a player has received this final payment, that player cannot
continue to play, and cannot receive any further prizes.
