ROUND 1 RESULTS - January 2009

       Congratulations to Evelyn Aiken who has reached $1000 in winnings. She is the 32nd player to reach this goal. She is no longer eligible to play Round 1, so all other players will move up one place.

       Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches. There were 26 competing entries in the January 2009 Round 1 puzzle. This makes 4 complete groups of 6 players. These 4 winners will receive $35 each, or they may choose to continue to Round 2 to compete for $175. There is also one partial group with 2 players. The winner of that group will receive $15.

       Total prize money won this month is $155. Total winnings paid in the Tournament of Riches is now $64,896.

       All winners will receive forms asking if they wish to continue to the next round. The forms are enclosed with each monthly mailing. Winners who wish to risk their prizes and continue to the following round must sign and return the forms by the given deadline. Winners who wish to stop and take their prizes may discard the signature forms. Winners will receive either their prize check or their higher round puzzle(s) with the next month's Round 1 puzzle. If the number of players for a given higher round is not an even multiple of 6, then some players will be held over to a later month.

       Robert Thrift had the 228-point top Round 1 solution shown below. The cutoff was at 219 points with 37 on the top row.

       There are still 5 players who are waiting to play Round 2. Some of them have been waiting for more than 2 years. As soon as 1 more player chooses to continue to Round 2 the next puzzle can be issued.

       To play in Round 2, just sign and return the signature slip. You can do this as often as you like, and accumulate pending entries for Round 2. You can continue winning Round 2 and higher round prizes even after you have passed the $1000 limit.

       The only way to win big money in Tournament of Riches is to continue on to Round 2 and beyond. There are three players who have each won more than $2,000 so far, and they all did it by playing Round 2 repeatedly.

       There is only one copy of our valuable How To Win booklet left. You can get it for only $6, which includes postage and handling. ($6.50 in Canada, $8 overseas.) The booklet is full of tips and techniques for winning Tournament of Riches, One On One and similar contests.
