ROUND 1 RESULTS - December 2007

       Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches. There were 27 competing entries in the December 2007 Round 1 puzzle. This makes 4 complete groups of 6 players. These 4 winners will receive $35 each, or they may choose to continue to Round 2 to compete for $175. There is also one partial group with 3 players. The winner of that group will receive $20.

       Total prize money won this month is $160. Total winnings paid in the Tournament of Riches is now $62,987.

       All winners will receive forms asking if they wish to continue to the next round. The forms are enclosed with each monthly mailing. Winners who wish to risk their prizes and continue to the following round must sign and return the forms by the given deadline. Winners who wish to stop and take their prizes may discard the signature forms. Winners will receive either their prize check or their higher round puzzle(s) with the next month's Round 1 puzzle. If the number of players for a given higher round is not an even multiple of 6, then some players will be held over to a later month.

       Robert Thrift had the 225-point top Round 1 solution shown below. Since there were 5 groups, you did not need the top score to win. You could score 7 points lower and still win. The cutoff was at 218 points.

       Several people have asked when Tournament of Riches will end. They want definite milestones that they can watch and track so that they can see how close to the end it is getting.

       So far 31 people have reached the $1000 prize limit. I have decided to close the contest when this number reaches 35. Each time someone reaches $1000, I announce it in the contest results. You can watch the results and see for yourself how near the final payoff is getting.

       [Now, a private word with the people who are close to $1000: You can reach $1000 much faster if you win $175 each time instead of $35 each time. You can help your fellow players if you return the signature slips every month and go ahead to Round 2. Just a few $175 wins by the right players, and Tournament of Riches will end by September.]

       There is only one copy of our valuable How To Win booklet left. You can get it for only $6, which includes postage and handling. ($6.50 in Canada, $8 overseas.) The booklet is full of tips and techniques for winning Tournament of Riches, One On One and similar contests.
