ROUND 1 RESULTS - August 2006

       Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches. There were 35 competing entries in the August 2006 Round 1 puzzle. This makes 5 complete groups of 6 players. These 5 winners will receive $35 each, or they may choose to continue to Round 2 and try for $175. There is also one partial group with 5 players. The winner of that group will receive $30.

       There were 5 entries in Round 2, making 1 group of players. The winner will receive $175, or may choose to go to Round 3 to try for $1,000.

       Total prize money won this month is $380. Total winnings paid in the Tournament of Riches is now $60,738.

       All winners will receive forms asking if they wish to continue to the next round. The forms are enclosed with each monthly mailing. Winners who wish to risk their prizes and continue to the following round must sign and return the forms by the given deadline. Winners who wish to stop and take their prizes may discard the signature forms. Winners will receive either their prize check or their higher round puzzle(s) with the next month's Round 1 puzzle. If there is an odd number of players for a given higher round, one player will be held over to a later month.

       Walter Hochbrueckner had the 218-point top Round 1 solution shown below. This was the closest finish ever in the Tournament of Riches, with all 5 other winners only 1 point below the top score.
