ROUND 1 RESULTS - September 2005

Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches. There were 52 competing entries for the September 2005 Round 1 puzzle. This makes 8 complete groups of 6 players. These 8 winners will receive $35 each, or they may choose to continue to Round 2 and try for $175. There is also one partial group with 4 players. The winner of that group will receive $25.

Total prize money won this month is $305. Total winnings paid in the Tournament of Riches is now $58,332.

Donna Fritschka had the 220-point top Round 1 solution shown below. Since there were 9 groups, you did not need the top score to win. In fact, you could score 7 points lower and still win. The cutoff was at 213 points with 36 on the top row.

Here is the highest-scoring entry in Round 1 and the list of winners:
   P I L I S L E 37 220 Donna Fritschka
					   220 Joel Prescott
       S T E I A 24 216 Sara Call
					   215 Joyce Monaghan
   P L E A T T P 35 214 Ed Fruechtemeyer
					   214 Jan Dabrowski
   L R R I E 25 214 Roger Snead
					   213 Judith Kimbrough
   A I S L E I R 33 213 Agnes Freidel

   I E A I I 32

   T L P T E L 34

There are now 5 players waiting for Round 2. As soon as one more Round 1 winner decides to go ahead to the next round another Round 2 puzzle can be issued.

There are currently 4 players who have won over $900, and who could reach the $1000 limit in the next 3 months. Top players in this situation may be wise to go ahead to Round 2 as often as they can. Once they reach the $1000 cutoff they will get no more chances to go to Round 2. But, if they choose to go to Round 2, say 10 more times before they reach $1000, then they will get 10 shots at the $175 Round 2 prize, and perhaps a few chances to win the $1000 Round 3 prize and the $5000 Round 4 prize.
