       Congratulations to John Bird for reaching $1,000 in winnings. John is the 9th player to reach the $1,000 mark. He will now leave the contest, and the remaining players will move up another place.
       Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches. There were 101 competing entries for the September 2001 Round 1 puzzle. This makes 16 complete groups of 6 players. Each of these 16 winners will receive $35, or they may choose to continue to Round 2 and try for $175. There is also one partial group with 5 players. The winner of that group will receive $30. Total prize money for Round 1 is $590 this month.
       Richard Jones had the top-scoring solution shown below. Since there were 17 groups, you did not need a top score to win. In fact, you could score 7 points lower and still win. The cutoff was at 231 points with 39 on the top row and 37 on the second row.
