ROUND 1 RESULTS - AUGUST 2001


       Congratulations to Donn Muranaka and Joy Stype who have now reached $1,000 in winnings. They are the 7th and 8th players to reach the $1,000 mark. They will now leave the contest, and the remaining players will move up two more places.
       Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches. There were 106 competing entries for the August 2001 Round 1 puzzle. This makes 17 complete groups of 6 players. Each of these 17 winners will receive $35, or they may choose to continue to Round 2 and try for $175. There is also one partial group with 4 players. The winner of that group will receive $25. Total prize money for Round 1 is $620 this month.
       Robert S. Lawrence had the top-scoring solution shown below. Since there were 18 groups, you did not need a top score to win. In fact, you could score 9 points lower and still win. The cutoff was at 234 points with 40 on the top row and 32 on the second row.
