ROUND 1 RESULTS - MARCH 2001


       Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's Tournament of Riches. Congratulations to David Hawker and Lawaine VanEyck who have become the third and fourth players to reach $1000 in winnings. They will now leave the contest, as the remaining players move up 2 places. We expect 6 to 8 more players to reach $1000 this year.

       There were 130 competing entries for the March 2001 Round 1 puzzle. This makes 21 complete groups of 6 players. Each of these 21 winners will receive $35, or they may choose to continue to Round 2 and try for $175. There is also one partial group with 4 players. The winner of that group will receive $25. Total prize money for Round 1 is $760 this month.

       David Simmonds had the top-scoring solution shown below. Since there were 22 groups, you did not need a top score to win. In fact, you could score 9 points lower and still win. The cutoff was at 228 points. with 39 on the top row.
