ROUND 1 RESULTS - November 2009

       The Contest Center has moved to a new computer running Windows 7. We allowed 2 weeks for the transition, based on our experiences with earlier computers. (This is our sixth.) However, that was not nearly enough. Microsoft decided to make a clean break with the past (that is, they did not provide any migration path), so all of our software, and all of the tools we used to use to create, modify and update our programs all stopped functioning at the same time. In short, Microsoft left us with no working software, and no way to fix it.
       All of the puzzles and results that should have been mailed in December are thereby late. We extend our apologies, and we have extended the deadline on all of the January puzzles until February 8.

       Thank you for playing in the Contest Center's One On One puzzle contest. In November 2009 there were 10 Round 1 entries, 4 Round 2 entries and 2 Round 3 entries.

       Half the players win on each puzzle, so there are 5 Round 1 winners, 2 Round 2 winners and 1 Round 3 winner for a total of $194. Total prize money paid in One On One is now $7,056.

       All winners will receive forms asking if they wish to continue to the next round. The forms are enclosed with each monthly mailing. Winners who wish to risk their prizes and continue to the following round must sign and return the forms by the given deadline. Winners who wish to stop and take their prizes may discard the signature forms. Winners will receive either their prize check or their higher round puzzle(s) with the next month's Round 1 puzzle. If there is an odd number of players for a given higher round, one player will be held over to a later month.
